In Zits: Chillax, Jeremy Duncan, high school sophomore and future rock god, offers up a comedic outlook on teenage life, including school, parents, chores, bands, and friends.
Jeremy and his best friend, Hector Garcia, are planning to achieve a lifelong dream…going to a rock concert! Without parental supervision. But the Gingivitis concert falls on the same night their friend Tim is donating bone marrow for his mom, a cancer patient. Not a problem: Jeremy and Hector are determined to go to the show…for Tim.
I have always loved roaming the comics in search of Zits and see if today the comic gave a experience I have faced in my life. The enjoyment and the laughter was something I was sure to find in this book. But besides the laughter I found a comic turned into a story that really did give me a different perspective on the comic I have come to loved.
Plot: The story followed an intriguing but simple plot line that made the story flow. Having pictures and comic strips to push the story forward, I found the story line of going to a concert for a friend quite gripping and moving. Making the concert quite an experience and with the characters becoming rebels and going beyond the distance to get something for his friend.
Characters: What I liked about this book and its characters were how sometimes we saw how guys really do act especially when they don’t know they are doing anything wrong. Jeremy and Hector at first I think are not the best of friends especially when their one friend his having bone marrow surgery and they will be spending it at a concert. But as the book goes on, we can see what they have planned is something one might go “Awwww” and that is how I felt. The transition the main character goes through when coming from a strip to a book is one that I felt was done with ease.
Overall Thoughts: This transition was remarkable and I will be keeping my look out for another Zits book that will hopefully be hitting the shelves. Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman have increased the love I have for this book even more. Fast and easy to breeze through book, Zits: Chillax is the book to read whenever in a reading slump.
I give it 4 bites!
I love Zits! It’s too fun and glad to see this one didn’t disappoint.
