“Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she’s losing hope.
Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.
Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart. “
The plot to this book is amazing. I have to admit, that I was a bit skeptical when it came to slamming. Unsure exactly what it was, I did not think I could not get into it. I was wrong. The author allows ample time to set into the characters, get introduce to slamming and BAM! You’re in. Simple as that. With the first poem, I actually felt a bit nervous. Like I was the once on the stage, laying out my deepest fears and emotions.
The characters of the book do some growing. I like that their lives were not easy but had plenty of drama surrounding them. I enjoyed being in their shoes, living their lives. There are many points where you feel everything that they feel. The love, the hurt, the regret. I had to set the book down just to gather myself again. Characters are well built and beautifully written.
The love interest will take you under. This love made me want, love, and cry. I can’t get over how many times I gasp or how many times I was like,”No way.” Their love grows so much in the readers heart. The author does a great job in getting the reader invested in the characters fast. I wasn’t even half-way through the book and my heart was already breaking into two.
Slammed is an exquisite, fierce novel. The mind-blowing crescendo of events leaves the reader breathless and wanting the more. Slammed is the reason why books make you feel alive. It’s loving and heart-breaking, bringing the reader to a point where you want to beg for mercy. And when you get to the ending, it’s fitting and perfect. Slammed is alluring and invigorating. Nothing like it’s kind, you must read this book.
I give it 5 BITES!
Happy Reading!
Wow Savy, this sounds awesome! I definitely would have passed it over based on the cover (I’m sorry!) as it reminds me of a textbook, but clearly that would be a mistake and I’d be missing out on something amazing!
Savy!!! Your review rocks!
I never heard of this one. I’m so going to have to check it out. Your review really has me excited to find out about this fierce novel (I love that). Thanks!
I really liked Will, too, and I liked the book. I didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to, hah, but I’m looking forward to the sequel. Can’t wait to read your review of that too, Savvy!
