Growing up on Forge’s streets has taught Kyra how to stretch a coin. And when that’s not enough, her uncanny ability to scale walls and bypass guards helps her take what she needs.
But when the leader of the Assassins Guild offers Kyra a lucrative job, she hesitates. She knows how to get by on her own, and she’s not sure she wants to play by his rules. But he’s persistent—and darkly attractive—and Kyra can’t quite resist his pull.
Tristam of Brancel is a young Palace knight on a mission. After his best friend is brutally murdered by Demon Riders, a clan of vicious warriors who ride bloodthirsty wildcats, Tristam vows to take them down. But as his investigation deepens, he finds his efforts thwarted by a talented thief, one who sneaks past Palace defenses with uncanny ease.
When a fateful raid throws Kyra and Tristam together, the two enemies realize that their best chance at survival—and vengeance—might be to join forces. And as their loyalties are tested to the breaking point, they learn a startling secret about Kyra’s past that threatens to reshape both their lives.
This has to be one of my favorite fantasy books that I have read in a while. So amazing and it is just the first book. This is another series that I have high hopes for and I hope to see where things go.
The beginning was slow but it instantly picked up. This book takes you on an adventure with so many twists and turns that you wonder what will come next. After it picked up, I found it really hard to put down and every responsibility that I needed to do was pushed back so I could read more. This is definitely a book for lovers of fantasy.
Kyra lives by herself and is faced with the decision of earning money to help her by joining a group. However, with her joining this group, her life is about to be changed and she must do things that she never thought she would. Not only is her life in danger but the people she loves and overall the whole kingdom.
Kyra is different. Many people think of characters that know how to wield a sword, be strong, keep their head straight in tight situations, I did not see this in her at first. I feel that this is what allowed me to connect more with the book. Her not knowing these things allowed her to grow throughout the novel and by the end she was a force not to be reckoned with. The other characters did play a role in the novel which I enjoyed because most of the times these characters are there just for fillers.
Overall this book is one that readers should not pass. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am highly anticipating the next book. Readers will love the adventure this book promises.
I give this book 5 bites!
I’m kind of picky about fantasy — not all of it is for me — but you saying that this is one of your favorites definitely makes me want to give it a try!
