Vigilance. The mission to safeguard Nikki Youngblood depends on the fragile alliance of two half-angel, half-human guardians, both struggling with intense feelings for the girl who has been assigned to their care. Mace, steadfast and deeply in love, wants to protect Nikki at all costs, while Raven's loyalty to Nikki finds him advocating for her independence and battling his own darker inclinations. At the same time, Nikki finds it harder and harder to choose between the two heavenly beings she may never have. Dangers intensify, and tensions between Mace and Raven flare as the purpose of their mission becomes clear. Can their defenses hold up to master manipulator Damon Vessler and the powerful secret he holds regarding Nikki's heritage? Can anyone protect Nikki from her true purpose and destiny?

After being swept off my feet with Heather Burch’s first book in the Halfling series I just knew that I had to read the second book in the series and see where it went and have my heart once again captured.

Angels: I just have to say that every time I pick a book up about angels I immediately love it. I think overall that there has been just one angel book that I didn’t like but ever since that book every angel book that I have picked up have captured my heart making me only wanting more. Just saying and totally not related to the review of the book but I guess you can guess what rating I gave this book by what you just read.

Plot: I have to say that the plot was much more interesting in this book than the first. I felt that there was a lot more knowledge released about the characters and even though there was not as much fight scenes as the first book, I still felt the book propel forward making me only want more. I think what really caught my attention was the twist in the story that made me stop and re-read over to make sure that I was not going crazy. Seriously!

Main Character: I really like Nikki. I don’t know why but I felt that if I was a girl I could relate to her but since I don’t have the mind of a girl (at least I don’t think I do) girls might hate her for the choices she makes. Yes I have to agree that her decisions might want me to slap her sometimes but I feel that all those “mistakes” make her human. All humans make mistakes and the hardest part is admitting it. Hey I might go crazy when you are stuck on a boat with people that look like gods…just saying. I felt that Nikki does grow in this story and at the end she realizes something that makes her life not be so normal anymore.

Romance: Okay here is where I feel that girls or even readers might not like Nikki. She is stuck in a love triangle with Raven and Mace and I think that she is not the only person to be blamed in this situation. I felt that the guys were manipulating her sometimes to gain an advantage over the other. I think that Nikki just needs to take a step back and think things over but I have a feeling over the person she should choose.

Ending: I think the ending left off at a good place and luckily I have the next book on hand and will be diving into it ASAP! There are many things that are happening or soon to happen that could mean danger not only for Nikki but the Halflings assigned to protect her; makes me want to bite my nails.

Heather Burch once again works her angelic magic and captures my heart with the second book in the Halflings series. Guardian is a book that will take you on a flight and will never let you drop. Utterly amazing!

I give it 5 bites

I’m actually not the biggest fan of angels, very few of them work for me. But you definitely got my attention for this one so I’m going to look up reviews for the first book. 🙂

I don’t really tend to read a lot of angel books, but this series does sound good. I’m glad that you are loving this series!

  3. I may not be a fan of the triangle, but it does sound good enough for me to read the series. Hopefully the next book is awesomesauce too!
