A ragtag group of teenage mercenaries who crew the spaceship Avalon stumble upon a conspiracy that could threaten the entire galaxy in this fascinating and fast-paced sci-fi adventure from author Mindee Arnett.

Of the various star systems that make up the Confederation, most lie thousands of light-years from First Earth-and out here, no one is free. The agencies that govern the Confederation are as corrupt as the crime bosses who patrol it, and power is held by anyone with enough greed and ruthlessness to claim it. That power is derived from one thing: metatech, the devices that allow people to travel great distances faster than the speed of light.

Jeth Seagrave and his crew of teenage mercenaries have survived in this world by stealing unsecured metatech, and they're damn good at it. Jeth doesn't care about the politics or the law; all he cares about is earning enough money to buy back his parents' ship, Avalon, from his crime-boss employer and getting himself and his sister, Lizzie, the heck out of Dodge. But when Jeth finds himself in possession of information that both the crime bosses and the government are willing to kill for, he is going to have to ask himself how far he'll go to get the freedom he's wanted for so long.

I have recently gotten into science fiction novels and after falling in love with the cover, I just knew I had to read this book and see what adventure it would take me on. Mindee Arnett takes us on a journey with Avalon that will sure phase you out of this world.

This book was a fast-paced read. Ms. Arnett filled these pages with action, adventure, love, twists and turns, and a family. I finished this book within hours and it left me wanting more. I have never read a book from Ms. Arnett before but she is now an author that I will keep my eyes out for.

Jeth and his friends are characters that the reader will be able to connect to and sooner than later, the reader will be following them on their adventure. Each character brings something different and after three new stranglers, things are about to go a little downhill. With each character brought into the story, secrets are revealed and the sayings “keep your friends close,”  comes out.

The romance in this book is cute.  The things that Sierra and Jeth go through show to the reader that family does come first, but overall, you will always come back to the person that you truly love.

Besides love, family, like mentioned before, is mentioned in here quite a lot. Family secrets are one of the dark secrets that will be reveled when the reader gets closer to the end. Family is always an important thing in books, when mentioned, and so for the next book I have hopes to see what this family will bring to the next book.

Ms. Arnett is an author readers should be looking for in the future. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for the next book in this amazing series.  A series that will lead readers to wanting only more, Avalon is a book to keep a look out for in 2014.

I give this book 4 bites!

This sounds fascinating and well rounded for a science fiction/dystopian novel. I love the idea of space travel and you have me curious about this fast paced tale.

YAY CHAYSE! I loved this one too and cannot wait for the next book. Like you said, family is important in this story and after everything that’s revealed in this first book, I’m excited to see how things with Jeth’s family will play out!
