Review: A Whole New World
What if Aladdin had never found the lamp? This first book in the A Twisted Tale line will explore a dark and daring version of Disney's Aladdin. When Jafar steals the Genie's lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish.To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war. What happens next? A Street Rat becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.
I just need to tell the whole world before starting this review of how much I love Disney. Especially the old time Disney like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Fox and the Hound, and of course Aladdin. Since hearing that they made the last one into a book, I knew I needed to get my hands on this book and see how this is was a tale twisted.
This book is exactly like if the movie Aladdin was transferred to book format except for a few moments in which the series got its name. We have all of our favorite characters but there are moments in which I have to stop and think for a moment. The book flowed and I gasped at the moments in which Ms. Braswell took and twisted them and not all the twists were good.
I loved seeing how we were able to get more into the life of the Street Rats and how they came more and more alive in this book as it went along. We were able to see more of Aladdin’s life before of course meeting the princess herself. The idea of magic was enhanced to a whole new evil in this book and this brought a rather exciting addition to the tale.
I am curious to see where this series is going and wondering which classic fairytale will get twisted around. Liz Braswell does well in capturing my loved Disney classic and making it something new. I encourage everyone to check out this book as it will surely be A Whole New World.
Happy Reading!
