“Destiny has a way of catching up.

Saddled with powers she doesn’t understand, Etta Fleming’s world is turned upside-down the day she meets Cooper Everett, the man who transports her to an alternate reality. A reality she was meant to be a part of.

One minute, she’s an orphan living at Dominion House for Girls, an institution for delinquent foster kids, then finds herself attending the exclusive Dominion Hall Academy.

Plucked from the only world she’s ever known, Etta now has to deal with an aunt she never knew, a boyfriend she doesn’t know, and a best friend who can’t know.

PARALLEL is the first book in the Travelers Series.”

Living in an Alternate World
First off, let me just say how thrilled I am to guest post on Books with Bite today!
When I found out Savannah is from my hometown, well, I knew exactly what I wanted to write about for my guest post. My home. It’s a place we all can’t wait to leave, but then can’t wait to go back for a visit.
It’s a place where tortillas are the size of spare tires, beans are served at breakfast, and BBQ can mean either brisket or barbacoa (trust me, you don’t want to know what part of the cow this comes from), and by substituting beer for vodka, you’ve just replaced a Bloody Mary with a michelada.
There’s even a difference in the way time is perceived. Fondly thought of as the Land of Mañana, folks think nothing of being an hour or even a day late. Then there’s the weather. There’s only one season: summer. Oh, and hurricane season.
Shoes are always optional, but don’t even think about leaving the house without any lipstick on. And you always wear your best party dress when it’s your birthday…even if you’re only going to school.
My hometown of Brownsville, Texas, just minutes away from the Mexican border, is somewhat quirky, but filled with plenty mysticism and magic. I’ve lived in a lot of places over the years, from Austin to L.A., then ultimately Washington, D.C, but only in Brownsville can you find these unique traditions and customs.
Everyone has a story to tell and there’s always a legend or ghost story thrown in for good measure. Every child knows about El Cucuy, the monster who comes after you when you disobey, and we’ve all heard the cries of La Llorona, who wanders around late at night. And it just wouldn’t be South Texas without the occasional Chupacabra news coverage whenever a rancher loses some goats.
Perhaps that’s why I love to tell stories so much. It’s part of our culture.
Thanks so much Claudia for being here today!
Claudia Lefeve was born and raised in the Gulf Coast border town of Brownsville, Texas; a curious place where folks see curanderas in lieu of shrinks, tortillas are served at every meal, and even gringos speak Spanish. PARALLEL, the first book in The Travelers series, is her debut YA speculative novel. She currently resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and two pugs.

I’m not from Brownsville, but I live in Texas and Hispanic! Woo! We have a lot of stories about La Llorona, El Cuycuy and of course El Chupacabra!
I seriously cannot get tired of hearing stories relating to any supernatural being.
And huh- I like the synopsis from the book. Oh dear! The goodies- I’m loving the bracelet!!!
Thanks so much for the giveaway guys!

I have to say, I have mutual feelings on both covers. I love the lettering on the right, but I’m not a fan of the house. The girl on the other cover is pretty, but I just don’t like it. Otherwise, can’t wait to read the book.
    Bracelet is perfect for Hallowee
