Lisa McMann's Dead to You meets Kate Ellison's The Butterfly Clues in a psychological thriller full of romance, intrigue, and mystery.
One year ago, Callie was found in an abandoned apartment, scrawling words on the wall: "I KILLED HIM. His blood is on my hands. His heart is in my soul. I KILLED HIM." But she remembers nothing of that night or of the previous thirty-six hours. All she knows is that her father, the reverend at the Church of the Holy Promise, is missing, as is Hannah, a young girl from the parish. Their disappearances have to be connected and Callie knows that her father was not a righteous man.
Since that fateful night, she's been plagued by graphomania -- an unending and debilitating compulsion to write. The words that flow from Callie's mind and through her pen don't seem to make sense -- until now.
As the anniversary of Hannah's vanishing approaches, more words and memories bubble to the surface and a new guy in school might be the key to Callie putting together the puzzle. But digging up the secrets she's buried for so long might be her biggest mistake.
I love mystery books. This story is filled with a mystery so dark, that I nearly held me breathe at the end. I swear there were times were I couldn’t even breathe!!
Plot: This is about a girl who goes through such a traumatic experience and can not remember it. Yet it has consumer her life with writings that she can’t control and can’t understand. That is, until she meets a guy who helps her unlock the mystery in her head. Dude, this story. I don’t know what even to say. It’s amazing. The way the story unfolds piece by piece leading the reader on this wild ride that I didn’t want to end. The plot is a slow build up that creates such a vivid picture in my mind, its like I’m in the story. Living the anxiety just wanting to know what it inside Callie’s head.
Relationships: This story has a lot to do with relationships. Callie has a pretty hard background that makes it hard to have relationships with people. Its hard for her to be around others and for her to control her thoughts. Yet, she needs these relationships to survive. These people around her, are very few, help her with her needs. Her needs to write uncontrollably in her notebook and her need to find answers.
Mystery: This is the part that really held me in the story. The author did such a great job in creating such a mysterious mystery that I could do nothing but read till the last page. It filled me with such interest I needed to know. Each chapter unveils the plot in a genus forms that keeps the reader firmly in their seat.
You need to read this book. If you into mysteries and are looking for something that has substance to distract you from the world, read this book. Oblivion is a sensation that you will not forget. A driving force that succeeds at thrilling the reader, Oblivion is awesome!
