After being entrusted with her brother's Los Angeles apartment for the summer as a graduation gift, Emi Price isn't sure how to fulfill his one condition: that something great take place there while he's gone. Emi may be a talented young production designer, already beginning to thrive in the competitive film industry, but she still feels like an average teen, floundering when it comes to romance.
But when she and her best friend, Charlotte, discover a mysterious letter at the estate sale of a Hollywood film legend, Emi must move beyond the walls of her carefully crafted world to chase down the loose ends of a movie icon’s hidden life, leading her to uncover a decades’ old secret and the potential for something truly epic: love.
Nina LaCour gives the inside scoop on the main character in EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU:
Everything Leads to You is narrated by an eighteen-year-old named Emi, who has been raised in Los Angeles by her professor parents. She’s from a mixed-race family and is a lesbian, but issues of identity are not at the forefront of her mind. She’s much more consumed at the opening of the novel by her ex-girlfriend, Morgan, who may want to get back together with her for the sixth time; by her internship at a Hollywood movie studio, for which she’s getting to design her first set; and a mysterious letter she and her best friend discover at the estate sale of a recently-deceased film icon.
Emi is passionate about her work as an emerging production designer and in her relationships. She’s a wunderkind, but she’s also human: she makes mistakes and she learns from them. She’s spent her whole life enraptured by films, and takes great care in crafting illusions by way of sets. But when the letter she discovers leads her to a girl whose life, though tied to the movies, is far from neatly scripted, Emi has to learn to see the world in a different way.
