The Hawaiian Islands. Known worldwide for their arts and culture. I fell in love with the islands during my first trip in 2004. I visited the islands of Oahu and Kauai during that trip and have returned over the years to some of the other islands, but I have to say, Kauai is my absolute favorite of all the islands.
I have a long list of reasons, but for now I will focus on the one at the top: Waimea Canyon. We all know about Arizona’s Grand Canyon, well Waimea Canyon is the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It’s approximately 14 miles and 3,600 feet deep and an incredibly beautiful place.
Waimea Canyon is the place where I thought up the idea of Mishap & Mayhem; you can say it’s the place where I first met my characters. It’s a place that I think anyone can really tap into and explore their creative side.
Mishap & Mayhem is set in Hawaii, a fantasy adventure that tells the story of twin girls visiting their eccentric grandmother. Books with Bite is kind enough to host a giveaway! I adore Hawaii! I got to go there for my honeymoon and really could have stayed there forever:) I think my favorite place to go though to just unwind/think/read would be Traverse City, Michigan. It’s nothing crazy special, but my parents have a house on the lake and there’s nothing better than sitting on a deck overlooking the water:)
I’ve never been to Hawaii but a couple of my closest friends are from there and I love hearing about not only the beauty fo the islands but the native culture. 🙂
I’ve always found my hometown really inspiring, even moreso since I haven’t lived there in over a decade. The cool thing is I’d always thought I’d like to write an urban fantasy set there and by random chance I picked up an UF book that turned out to be set there. It’s very cool seeing my hometown as a place where werewolves, vampires and fae roam.
@Jenny, I have always wanted to go to Michigan and Hawaii. I have traveled a lot and those are a few places I liked to see.
@Rihanna, you know I think the town I lived it can make a great dramatic book. Especially in a contemporary one. Everyone is so into everyone else’s business likes its no tomorrow. If I ever write a book I write on my home town!

Oh, Hawaii is heaven on earth! I regret not having had time to visit places more inland, but I couldn’t tear myself away from the beaches.
I think anywhere where you get to look out at water is very inspirational.

Not a place, but I find a lot of my inspiration comes from dreams. Hawaii is very pretty, though.
Hawaii is lovely! I haven’t been there in years (sigh), but it’s easy to see how a writer could draw inspiration from such an amazing place.
I think my inspiration comes from my job. When I am feeling overwhelmed (some days it feels like I hardly have time to breathe), I find my imagination running away with me seeking a break from reality. I seem to do my best work when I’m under pressure… and looking for a mental escape!
