One kiss could be the last. Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal—fit in at school, and go out on a real date with the gorgeous Zayne, whom she's crushed on since forever. Trouble is, Zayne treats Layla like a sister—and Layla is anything but normal. She's half demon, half gargoyle, with abilities no one else possesses. And even though Zayne is a Warden, part of the race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe, Layla's kiss will kill anything with a soul—including him. Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know her secrets. Though Layla knows she should stay away, it's tough when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue. Trusting Roth could ruin her chances with Zayne—and brand her a traitor to the Warden family that raised her. But as Layla discovers she's the sole reason for a violent demon uprising, kissing the enemy suddenly pales in comparison to the looming end of the world

Before you guys get really mad at me. Never mind just forget it. So this is my first Jennifer Armentrout book that I have read ever even though I have about eight of her books but I wanted to wait for the right moment to dive in and boy was I wrong in waiting. That was a very childish mistake of mine and if you take anything from this review just please go pick up this book if you haven’t.

This book was just what I needed to get me through the day. Literally I read this book in less than a day and I only stopped because I figured I needed to eat and go to the swim classes that I signed up for. But anyway not important. What is important is this book. The chapters flowed together so well. The author did not waste any time getting into the action and the romance was on par.

The story follows a character by the name of Layla who just happens to be part demon and part Warden. However, she soon finds out that she is not on the top of the most wanted list by some very powerful demons and in comes Roth. Roth, the boy you will fall in love with, just warning you. But Roth is sent up from the fiery pits of hell to protect Layla from being captured. But what she isn’t being told is that she holds the key to unlocking a powerful force that can change the world as we know it.

Layla is I could see as your typical female character but what captured me to her character was the descriptions. They were vivid and it made me feel like I was seeing through her eyes. I had a feeling she was going to be a kickass character and she did not disappoint. Zayne, well he is a confused boy. I feel that he cares for Layla but like any typical boy he finds it hard to express his feelings. I don’t know if I see him being with Layla but you can decide that for yourselves. Roth, well he can have Layla. I am sorry if this is going to stir controversy but he is my man and I am all for him. He is bad, sensitive, caring, surprising, and many more adjectives that I can spend all day writing to describe him.

The ending was just cruel. It really was and thank goodness that I waited this long because I do not need to wait forever in a year for the next book. I just need to go to the bookstore and pick up books. Oh yes and don’t I will be picking up the next book.

Overall I am glad that I took a chance with Jennifer and her books. I am excited to see where this series goes as well as her other books. I encourage you to check her out because you will not be disappointed.

Happy Reading!
