Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami, a death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life?

Boredom
Light tests the boundaries of the Death Note's powers as L and the police begin to close in. Luckily Light's father is the head of the Japanese National Police Agency and leaves vital information about the case lying around the house. With access to his father's files, Light can keep one step ahead of the authorities. But who is the strange man following him, and how can Light guard against enemies whose names he doesn't know?

I am kind of new to manga and I have not done much exploring in this type of genre so I wanted to give it a test and see what I thought of it and see where it could lead. So why not make a new feature out of it. So every Monday I will do my best to review a manga and hopefully get through the series. So for this week I am starting Deathnote

So the manga follows this boy name Light who is a teenage boy who can be considered intelligent in his school. Placing first in the top exams is just the touch of his brilliance and things immediately change when he gets his hand on a notebook that can control a person’s death. Interesting.

I find Light’s idea of how he wants to use the deathnote is brilliant in the sense that he wants to wipe out all of the top criminals in the world. However, I do feel that once you start it is hard to stop and I feel that he might lose himself and instead of doing things in a good way, he is doing things in a bad way. But we will have to see.

I think the story was not confusing, it is definitely a different read but one I plan to continue to see what happens next. I would recommend this to people who are like me and are curious to what manga are out there. Give it a whirl and if you have read this series, let me know what you think.

Happy Reading!

  1. I tried this one as a cartoon, but just never got into it. Hm… might have to try again.
