An exotic treat set in an entirely original, fantastical world brimming with deadly mystery, forbidden romance, and heart-stopping adventure. Nisha was abandoned at the gates of the City of a Thousand Dolls when she was just a child. Now sixteen, she lives on the grounds of the isolated estate, where orphan girls apprentice as musicians, healers, courtesans, and, if the rumors are true, assassins. Nisha makes her way as Matron’s assistant, her closest companions the mysterious cats that trail her shadow. Only when she begins a forbidden flirtation with the city’s handsome young courier does she let herself imagine a life outside the walls. Until one by one, girls around her start to die. Before she becomes the next victim, Nisha decides to uncover the secrets that surround the girls’ deaths. But by getting involved, Nisha jeopardizes not only her own future in the City of a Thousand Dolls—but her own life.

After reading so many mixed reviews of this book I wanted to take a go at it and let me just say to all of you that didn’t like the book, I just don’t understand why. Grabbing me from the beginning I dived in and didn’t come out for a breath of air until I finished the last page.
I think this book was another simple read that I just really enjoyed. At first when opening up the book and seeing all the characters and learning what house they were a part of I thought that I was going to be so confused and I was going to spend my time flipping back to see what house the characters were from. However, I let the book take a hold of me and let it pull me through the story.
If I was in this book, I would literally punch one the characters. The romance was kind of cute with it being all forbidden, reminds me of Romeo and Juliet but seriously when the girl gets a little bit hurt, its a shame to be see with a person with a limp and than to insult the person more. Girls, if you still wanted to be with a guy after this…you need to serious help.
Nisha is a wonderful character and I love how a person can be on the very bottom and come to be one of the most respected people. All though its a typical way for the book to go, I still find myself enjoying it every time.
Miriam Forster debut novel blew my mind away and I am looking for all upcoming novels from this brilliant mind. Action and adventured packed, City of a Thousand Dolls is the must read novel of the new year!
I give it 4 bites!

I’ve been curious about this one bc while I’m not a fan of fantasy I do like particular kinds and this one sounded like it could be a winner. I haven’t seen very many reviews yet to so far so good! 😉

I liked this book but I guess I was one that was a bit ‘meh’ about it. It was a great concept I just felt bored for some reason. I always think that maybe it’s just me, like it didn’t fit my mood or something. I’m glad you really enjoyed it! I think that I will probably read the second book which is suppose to be a companion novel and see if I like it. It’s definitely a fascinating world!
And I agree about the romance stuff. He wasn’t a BAD guy, but once we saw that other side more I didn’t see why she’d want to be with him. I was so proud when she stuck to her guns that she didn’t want someone she couldn’t have all the way.
