“What if you were a teenager and discovered you had the ability to read minds? What would you do
with that power? Those are two questions Christine Carpenter would like answered as she begins her
sophomore year at Thomas Jefferson High School. She soon discovers she is not the only student
Everett. They become friends, but their relationship is strained as they learn to cope with their powers
while trying to keep them a secret from the world.

Christine’s questions are answered when a monster, lurking in the depths of her school, threatens to
murder the student population. When it becomes apparent the monster is someone she knows, she
must decide whether to try and save him, or, if he must be destroyed, what might the consequences
be?”

I’ll be the first to say that the cover does not grab me at all. I do my best not to judge a book by the cover and read the book. Now, with that being said, this is a really good book. I mean, really good. I was blown away of how much action was in it. The characters and plot were good. They all have a great depth to them that made you feel the characters and draw you even more in the book.

The plot is what grab me. The plot had lots of action, drama and a great build up to a good fight in the end. I felt strong and happy when reading this book. It was super funny cause when I was reading this book, I was dodging and moving around when the fight rolled around. My husband looked at me weird. LOL! Mr. Mascia did a great job with the storyline and keeping the reader entertain. Not once did I get bored or tired of the plot. If anything the plot kept you on your toes.

By now, you should know that I love secrets. I LOVE them. To me, revealing secrets is like the icing on the cake. I like gasping and feeling surprised myself. I loved reading that. I enjoyed learning the secrets and especially knowing what it can do to you if you let it take over. I like the lesson learn in the end. It has a nice touch with learning and controlling your powers.

High School Heroes is great book with lots of action in it. Mr. Mascia pulls the reader in, drowning them in his story. Not only did the reader see the characters grow, but the reader see the progress of friendships and new beginnings. If you like X-men, but for teens, read this book. I can guarantee that while the cover will not blow you away, the story will.

I give it 4 BITES!

Happy Reading!

Based on this cover, I wouldn’t pick this one up either, but I love when I’m pleasantly surprised when I go in not expecting much! I just finished Class Collision, and it was much the same way. The cover did nothing for me, but the story was great:)

  2. I love that you moved with the book. I’m not the only one! 🙂 I’m so glad the story is captivating. I agree with the cover. They could have at least gotten the lighting the same on the characters! lol

Wow, that must have been good if you were actually moving to the action! I agree that the cover is awful.
