Making friends has never been Elise Dembowski’s strong suit. All throughout her life, she’s been the butt of every joke and the outsider in every conversation. When a final attempt at popularity fails, Elise nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where she meets Vicky, a girl in a band who accepts her; Char, a cute, yet mysterious disc jockey; Pippa, a carefree spirit from England; and most importantly, a love for DJing.

This book is a sad book. A sad book that will leave your eyes empty of tears, your throat all tense, and a sense of understanding with what took place in the magnificent book that captured me by surprise and even though I was sad I was happy.

I think what was so great about this book is that no matter what role or clique you played or were a part of in high school, you can relate to the message this book brings you through this girl. I think that we are lonely people sometimes and there is always that one thing we turn to so that we don’t have to feel with the emptiness anymore. For me it was swimming and reading. For you it can be something different. But as people we all went through that stage where we were finding out who we were as people. What we wanted to do for the rest of our lives. Finding acceptance within ourselves to be who we are and not what other people expect us to be. (I find myself starting to tear when writing this review).

Elise is a character that made me go through different stages of my emotions. She made me go back and think about times where I felt what she was going through and made me think of how I felt and what I could have done to make the outcome different. I felt an array of emotions that I a character in a book has yet to make me wonder about until I met Elise.

There is so much more that I can say about this book but I feel like I said my part without bringing up my life into the review. Words cannot express how you really need to read this book. No exceptions. No excuses. This book will make you think twice about yourself because I know it did for me.

I give this book 5 bites!

Oh I want to read this one so badly! Leila Sales is a genius in creating characters and this book just sounds absolutely amazing!

  2. I’m so torn whether I want to read this or not. Sad books make me really…well…sad. I don’t like crying and I hate when books leave me breathless and on the verge of depression afterward. But, these are some of the best books! I love when I go through a whole slew of emotions in one book. But if you’re saying we need to read it, guess I need to!
