The impossible was just the beginning. Now in their second year as superhuman government weapons-in-training at the Pentagonal Spire, Tom Raines and his friends are mid-level cadets in the elite combat corps known as the Intrasolar Forces. But as training intensifies and a moment arrives that could make or break his entire career, Tom’s loyalties are again put to the test.

Encouraged to betray his ideals and friendships for the sake of his country, Tom is convinced there must be another way. And the more aware he becomes of the corruption surrounding him, the more determined he becomes to fight it, even if he sabotages his own future in the process.

Drawn into a power struggle more dramatic than he has ever faced before, Tom stays a hyperintelligent step ahead of everyone, like the exceptional gamer he is—or so he believes. But when he learns that he and his friends have unwittingly made the most grievous error imaginable, Tom must find a way to outwit an enemy so nefarious that victory seems hopeless. Will his idealism and bravado cost him everything—and everyone that matters to him?

I read Insignia a couple weeks ago and being captured by the idea of the world in a World War 3 and how the battle has been taken to space. So after loving the first book, I just knew how I needed to pick up the next book in the series and find out what could possibly happen next.

Plot: The plot in this book has been what I would consider thrilling just because on every page the reader is swept into an adventure, and there is always something happening that is there to capture the reader. I so caught up in the book that I literally lost track of time and things that were happening around me and it kind of made me nervous…just saying.

Characters: We are once again connected to our characters that we were introduced in the first book and I felt that there weren’t any new characters that we were introduced to in the story that brought much to the already developed story. Tom has I feel grown up by the end of that book and although he still is strong-headed and a risk taker I feel that at the end, he comes to realize to appreciate things that maybe he didn’t look at before or he did but in a different perspective.

Romance: Things between Tom and Medusa were left off kind of rickety in the last book but I felt that their fire was rekindled and I am hoping to see more from these amazing characters in the next upcoming books. Hopefully there will not be any sort of love triangle.

Overall this book captured my heart more than the first book and S.J. Kincaid has sure made it into my list of top authors for 2013. I will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and I hope that everyone will take time to read this amazing series that will be sure to blow you away.

I give it 5 bites!
