Miranda wakes up alone on a park bench with no memory. In her panic, she releases a mysterious energy that incites pure terror in everyone around her. Except Peter, a boy who isn’t at all surprised by Miranda’s shocking ability.

Left with no choice but to trust this stranger, Miranda discovers she was trained to be a weapon and is part of an elite force of genetically-altered teens who possess flawless combat skills and powers strong enough to destroy a city. But adjusting to her old life isn’t easy—especially with Noah, the boyfriend she can’t remember loving.

Then Miranda uncovers a dark truth that sets her team on the run. Suddenly her past doesn’t seem to matter... when there may not be a future.

I met Mr. Krokos back in September at the Austin Teen Book Festival. Let me say how amazing his was and generous to the readers to attended the event. I am finally getting the chance to read his debut novel and let me just say…I was satisfied.

Let me start with the story. I have to be honest and say I have not read a story like this for a long time, I cannot even think of a book I read in the past with a similar story line. So for that I think that the originality behind the story is not only brilliant but magnificent. Going on an adventure with characters whose main purpose is to be used as a psychological weapon. Who would do that to children? However, are these children really human or were they a lab experiment who went rogue.

Miranda is a character that I was able to connect with and I believe other readers will be able to do the same. Waking up in a place with no memory of really who she is and how she got there, is something I can only think of as being scary. I would be freaked out…wouldn’t you? Then finding out she can flip someone and then all of a sudden release a power that can bring fear to people that can only lead to death. Not a good start for her is it. As the book continues, we are able to see her character develop as she slowly gains memory of who is or was for that matter. She meets other characters that play an important role in her life and share the same goal.

The love in here is a little tricky at first but I think as Miranda evolves and she slowly gets some of her memories back she realizes that the person she though she loves is not real. I think overall this is an important part in the book because through this realization we see the character mature greatly. To have a crush on someone is one thing but to love another is something that takes something really deep. Trust me I know.

Overall Dan Krokos writes a magical debut novel that grabbed me from the beginning. An adventure packed book filled with action and some sadness but has an ending that leaves the reader wanting more. False Memory is a book that will never leave your memory.

I give it 5 bites!

I’ve been seeing this book around for a while but for some reason I’ve never felt a strong urge to pick it up. I definitely want to give it a try now though Chayse, I’m intrigued by the romance aspect of this one and the way you described it. Thanks for your thoughts!

Ooh I loved this one too! You’re taking me back to those first few pages when Miranda has no idea what’s going on but then realizes she can flip someone—so cool! And very Jason Bourne like. I can’t wait for the sequel! Fantastic review Chayse!
