I never believed in ghosts. Until one tried to kill me.

When Kennedy Waters finds her mother dead, her world begins to unravel. She doesn’t know that paranormal forces in a much darker world are the ones pulling the strings. Not until identical twins Jared and Lukas Lockhart break into Kennedy’s room and destroy a dangerous spirit sent to kill her. The brothers reveal that her mother was part of an ancient secret society responsible for protecting the world from a vengeful demon — a society whose five members were all murdered on the same night.

Now Kennedy has to take her mother’s place in the Legion if she wants to uncover the truth and stay alive. Along with new Legion members Priest and Alara, the teens race to find the only weapon that might be able to destroy the demon — battling the deadly spirits he controls every step of the way.

I am in love with Kami Garcia. I doubt she knows this and when I saw her two years ago at the Austin Teen Book Festival I want to say our eyes locked for a couple seconds. Just saying people. I fell head over heels for Kami Garcia when I read her co-authored book Beautiful Creatures. Words can not describe what my feeling were and being able to meet her, made my love for her grow tremendously. I was so excited to get my hands on this book and see how she would capture me again and let me just say that I am glad she wrote another book.

Unbreakable is, and I am sure I am not the only one thinking this, but Supernatural meets the YA generation. OMG!!!!! I am seriously obsessed with that show and when reading this book and turning page after page, I felt like I was watching the show again. So many plot twists, a haunting aura emitting from it pages, and let me say I sometimes had a hard time sleeping at night. This book was the perfect book to read during the month of Halloween and I am glad I went on an adventure.

The characters I felt were a little slow in the beginning but that is with every book and thankfully it sped up and things kept get more and more interesting. The main character Kennedy is like every girl who realizes she is a part of something world changing only after someone in her life dies. She quickly gets immersed into a new world where she joins a group that calls themselves The Legion. I am not going to lie when I say this reminded myself a little bit of a cult. She meets new characters that tell her of the ropes and at first being with them is a little rocky just because she is still getting used to it and she is just lost that no one explained this to her. The characters become a family to one another by the end of the book and I feel the reader will really enjoy them.

Jared and Kennedy spark up a little romance in the story and it is quite interesting how it is. Come on, sharing a kiss after being nailed into a hole basically. Really. The idea of something romantic is sure changing. I want to see where this fling goes on and at the end it was a little heart wrenching and you will just have to read why.

The ending left me wanting more and that is exactly what I want. Kami Garcia keeps to the paranormal aspect of writing but it is clear that this is different from Beautiful Creatures. Spooky and Haunting beyond compare, Unbreakable is the book to read, especially at night.

I give it 4 bites!

I’m glad you loved this one! It sounds like the perfect Halloween read. And I love that it’s a Supernatural meets YA generation type. My sis read it and didn’t fall in love with it, but I’m still debating on giving it a shot because I am a huge Supernatural fan 😀

I so want to read this! I haven’t finished the Beautiful Creatures books but I loved the first two!

  3. Great review. I thought the premise sounded really interesting but since I didn’t read Beautiful Creatures I wasn’t sure if I would like it. Your’s is the first review I’ve read of this book but I can tell that I definitely need to give it a shot!
