Darkness never dies. Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long. The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

I was swept off my feet with Shadow and Bone and now Leigh Bardugo has come back around and took me on an adventure that most readers would only dream of going on.

The story of Alina, the Sun Summoner, and her savior Mal continues with them hiding from the Darkling. However, it is not long before there paths cross once more and they are captured and are forced to search for the second amplifier.

Alina, I feel has grown so much from the first novel. Although she wants to have a normal life, things can never be the same for her because of the gift she holds. I understand throughout this book, that such a gift as hers is not something of beauty but terror. In the end Alina knows what she has to do but can she live with leaving the person she loves.

Now Mal on the other hand  I have some bones to pick with him. He is being such a jealous little boy that he needs to have some sense slapped into him. I am not saying that he doesn’t have a right to be mad at Alina, but with him continuously pushing her away, who knows maybe one he will actually succeed.

With the relationship between Mal and Alina well it gets sticky with different situations pushing them to their limit. With a new character causing tension between the two characters and the Darkling entering Alina’s mind nothing good can come from this.

The plot is full of all things to create a masterpiece. Action happening on every page this book was one that never got placed down. Ms. Bardugo will ensnare you with her tale that will leave you only wanting more. The third book can not get here any sooner.

I give it 5 BITES!
Happy Reading!

I LOVED THIS BOOK CHAYSE!!!!!! So good:) I agree Mal was frustrating in this one – I got where he was coming from, but I don’t think he could quite look past his own discomfort and see how hard everything was on Alina as well. Still, the added drama in their relationship kept things super interesting as we waited for the Darkling to make his move, so I thought it all worked. So glad you loved it too!

  2. I still want and need that first book! NEED!!!! 😀 You have just made me want that first one even more… *Sigh* 😀

I didn’t love this one as much as the first but it was a decent sequel. I think the 3rd will be pretty epic!!
