“A lost colony is reborn in this heart-pounding fantasy adventure set in the near future . . .
Sixteen-year-old Thomas has always been an outsider. The first child born without the power of an Element—earth, water, wind or fire—he has little to offer his tiny, remote Outer Banks colony. Or so the Guardians would have him believe.
In the wake of an unforeseen storm, desperate pirates kidnap the Guardians, intent on claiming the island as their own. Caught between the plague-ridden mainland and the advancing pirates, Thomas and his friends fight for survival in the battered remains of a mysterious abandoned settlement. But the secrets they unearth will turn Thomas’ world upside-down, and bring to light not only a treacherous past but also a future more dangerous than he can possibly imagine.”
I found this book so confusing in the beginning that I had to continue to just what in the world is going on!
What I really loved about this book is the great plot. Once you begin reading, you are thrown into the middle of society filled with secrets and rules. I admit that as soon as I picked up this book, I thought about dnfing it, instead, I decided to keep going. Why? Well, for one, I’m a person who likes to “know” things. *sigh* If something happens, I want to explore every reason, every logic, every cause and effect to figure out why it happen. Being thrown into a secret society, that I carrying heavy burdens you can bet all I wanted to do is to know what are they hiding?
There wasn’t much of a love interest. Instead, we have teens who are left to fend for themselves, tracing any clues they can find to piece together what they don’t know. This part of the story is my favorite. I love moving along with the characters, turning every piece of paper, analyzing every thought, every move, every secret hiding place looking for any clues to answers questions. I love putting the clues together, watching the picture come together in my mind. Which leads me to next best part…
THE ENDING! DUDE!! Mind-blowing!! When I read that last line, I gasp and then laughed. It certainly left me hanging and open a door to a whole new set of questions. I want more!!
Elemental is exciting new story that is different from the rest. It rises above other YA books out there, taking the stage. A compelling and demanding story, Elemental is awesome!
I give it 5 BITES!
