This page-turning debut novel will entice fans who like their paranormal romances dark and disturbing.Everywhere Silla Kennicott turns she sees blood. She can't stop thinking about her parents alleged murder-suicide. She is consumed by a book filled with spells that arrives mysteriously in the mail. The spells share one common ingredient: blood, and Silla is more than willing to cast a few. What's a little spilled blood if she can uncover the truth? And then there's Nick—the new guy at school who makes her pulse race. He has a few secrets of his own and is all too familiar with the lure of blood magic. Drawn together by a combination of fate and chemistry, Silla and Nick must find out who else in their small Missouri town knows their secret and will do anything to take the book and magic from Silla?
I really loved the plot of this book. It was totally engrossing and had a very good history to the whole story. The story line of the book was good. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing the whole story unfold. Even from the very beginning, you can tell right from the start that there is so much more to the writing. The writing of the story flowed beautifully unveiling the great history. I love it when an author can not only bring the book to life by its characters but by the history as well.
The characters of the story were well develop. Each had their own story to tell, their own back round. I really loved learning about the family who is in magic. The reader is immersed in such a great story that it is easy to get into. Another great part of the book is the point of view switches. Now I am a very picky person when it comes to this. But Ms. Gratton did such a wonderfully job giving us point of views not only from the present tense, but from the past as well. I like how she connected everything to now, and really held the reader there. Ms. Gratton had me gasping and holding my heart on my throat!
This book is a great, magical read full of a dark past like no other. The magic in this book is just dripping off the pages with wonderful writing. I can’t wait to read the next book! *There was some cursing.
