Book Talk: Bookish Sites

Apr •  16 •  2014

Hello lovely readers!

Today I want to talk about Bookish sites. There are so many out there. Here are a few that I stick to and really love.

Site:  Literally http://www.literally.io/

Tag Line: Literally, the best app for readers.

Why I use it: I heard about this site and it immediately peaked my interest. One thing that caught my attention is…no reviews. Yes, that’s right. There are no reviews. I like that. Sometimes when I’m on Good Reads my feed is slammed with reviews, which is sometimes okay. But sometimes (okay most of the time) I rather not see the reviews. Some are spoilery and others are just well…yeah. I like that when you log on to Literally there is no feed. You can organize the shelf the way you want it. You can review a book (just stars, no words) and move on. Plus, you earn very cool bookish stickers. The only downside to this site is there is no mobile app. They are currently working on one!!

Site: Booklikes http://booklikes.com/

Tag Line: Love Reading Books?

Why I use it: Booklikes is another bookish site that came about just last year. I think it has potential because once again it carries reviews different. Reviews are seen in a feed, but for me I rarely look at them. Booklikes allows the reader to shelve books the way they want and has an easy set up to use. One feature I really like is the Giveaway section. Love it.

Site: Library Thing https://www.librarything.com/

Tag Line: A Home For Your Books

Why I use it: Mostly for the giveaways. I love this site because this is the one place where I actually win books. LOL. I admit that I never really fixed my shelves on here. I just add my reviews and boom it’s done. It carries a load of books on the site and an easy search function. I never once had problems with Library Thing. They even turn the whole site to Pirate Speak on National Talk Like A Pirate Day. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Site: Good Reads http://www.goodreads.com/

Tag Line: Meet Your Next Favorite Book

Why I (still) use it: Good Reads was the first bookish social site I used. I like it because it was an easy way to keep track of my books. Over the course of years however, Good Reads has turn into this feeding frenzy of drama. My feed is FULL of ads, reviews, author/reader bashing, etc. Most of the time I just ignore the whole section but honestly I wish I could just get rid of that area. I still use Good Reads only for maintaining my currently reading, want to read, etc. That’s it.

*SEMI-BOOKISH SITES*

Site: Amazon http://www.amazon.com/

        Barnes & Noble http://www.barnesandnoble.com/

These are currently the two sites where I think reviews belong. On a shopping site. I do put my reviews on these sites and get plenty of feedback.

Site: Face Book

I do currently have a FB page for my blog but I have to admit that I don’t really use it as much or rather push it either. For me FB is a personally place.

Site: Instagram http://instagram.com/#

I LOVE Instagram. I use it pretty much everyday and showcase what books I got.

Site: Twitter https://twitter.com/

Another site I use that is a great way to connect with other readers/bloggers/authors. I found this is the best possible way to talk about books, releases, or to fangirl over a movie!

So what sites do you use/do not use? Which do you use most?

Happy Reading!

Actually, I think Twitter is my favorite for really connecting with a wide variety of people/readers/bloggers/authors/publishers/etc. I review on Amazon and Goodreads, too, but don’t get much in the way of feedback on those (some…).

I love twitter as well. it gives me the chance to talk to other bloggers and authors. 🙂

  2. I seen a bunch of people on twitter talking about booklikes and literally and had NO idea what on earth those sites were. This post was extremely helpful in that regard! I may have to start using them now 🙂 I dislike facebook and rarely ever get on there. I don’t have a page for my blog and probably won’t make one because it’s just too much work. I’m so glad I decided to make a bookish instagram. I love seeing what everyone is reading and have bought/got in the mail!

I’ve been using Goodreads for quite a few years now so even with all the issues it’s hard to really break away fully. I do not post full reviews there anymore, so that is about the only change I’ve made.

I do have a BookLikes account but I haven’t been on in awhile. I recently joined Literally and I like the sticker aspect and just being able to rate the books I’ve read and move on.

Exactly, that’s why I love Literally. No drama. Just rate and move on.

I would like to be able to at least say that I liked the book though. That would be nice.

  4. I don’t see the drama on GR because I stick to the peeps I know when looking for something. So, haven’t been a part of that drama at all. *knock on wood* I think I signed up on book likes but haven’t been back. There are so many out there and not all of them I use.

I haven’t used the other book sites, other than LibraryThing. I mostly stick with Goodreads. I don’t hang out there but I do read reviews on there quite often. It’s easy for me cause of the app. I don’t have time to use a ton of different sites. At some point it may become necessary though. I think we should all review on Amazon at least. I don’t always remember to post on B&N. It’s just so time consuming pasting them everywhere.
    I also love Instagram!

So much like your enjoyment of http://literally.io because it doesn’t have reviews, I like http://libib.com (which I don’t see on your list) because it’s social aspect is minimal. I just want a place to catalog my books, which it does beautifully. (Plus I keep track of my movies as well, and it’s nice to have it all in one spot).

I haven’t had a chance to use literally yet, so I’m going to check that out next…
